Mourning Dove

Zenaida macroura

Description:

This male was taking pine straw to his mate, who was building a nest in a nearby water oak. Several times, he chased off other doves that came near his gathering area!

Habitat:

The mourning dove is one of the most common birds in North America and will nest almost anywhere.

Notes:

I love the golden iridescence on this bird's neck!
