Description:

60mm wide, 50mm tall. Crusty deep red top, crowded white to cream coloured gills, margin square, stipe parallel, slightly scaly, slightly stained? some mycelium showing at base?

Habitat:

Suburban fringe.. on a very large rotting pine log.

Gymnopilus purpuratus.

Hi rat ! Thanks for the idea. I like the colour comparison but the biggest problem is the size. These buttons were not more than 60mm.. (2.1 inches) across whereas the T.rutilans around here are about 280mm (10 inches) at least. I found one last week here... http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/119...
