Geophaps plumifera
Male and female are similar; small pigeon with tan crest of feathers, grey head, tan, brown, black marked back and body feathers, white tips to wings, white on chest, tan throat and chest, dark beak, white chin, black line around eye extending from beak to back of neck, red eye ring and eye, purple grey legs. Two 'races' are identified, the one pictured is known as the Plumed Pigeon by some and has the white belly, while another form has has a reddish/brown belly. Spinifex Pigeons live in small flocks (up to around 50 or so birds) and pairs or family groups, seed eaters, they 'totter' along the ground and flit and jump spasmodically when intruders approach.
Found in arid zones of inland Australia, north west regions to the coast. Often near water.
