Greater Blue-Ringed Octopus

Hapalochlaena lunulata

Description:

This was large, about the size of a baseball, for a blue ringed octopus. It was extremely active, swimming and crawling from rock to rock.

Habitat:

Coral Reef. Took these two pictures at Arthur's Rock at 45 feet.

Notes:

I took the two pictures just seconds apart. I love how it changed colours dramatically and moved over the rocks.

Incredible comparison! It seems to be laying low in the first shot and really sitting up and putting on a display in the second shot. Very interesting behavioral documentation.
