Gambusia affinis
I found these tiny fish in a fresh water pond. The color seems to change with the light. Are these Minnows?
almost allways Aaron,we shouldn't beahavour like child's playing with fire
one more case to prove that the name biological in these cases is not sinonimus of good practices, they never learned?here we have ashegans(?) from US introduced in dams, erasing common river fishes, they introduced them to fisher's plasear, the result is desastrous, like we talk other day about my sliders spottings, that europe is invaded my turtels of every where :( it's a bit scary,a mad world ,for the good and to much times for the bad
So true Antonio!
Recent studies suggest that mosquitofish may be reducing amphibians native to local streams including the California newt, the Pacific treefrog and the California treefrog, which is a candidate for protected status. :(
Good idea, and it work?there are many times that these kind of biological pest control can go wrong
Thanks Antonio. These are added to the pond to keep the mosquito population down.
Matt, thanks for the Id . From the images in the wikipedia these look like male. I am surprised to see such a difference between male and female in terms of color. Also the fact that this is a pool of males only. I am uploading another spotting which was very puzzling because of the colors. Turns out that they are female and it is a pool of female mosquito fish.
