Cottonhopper

Flatidae nymph

Description:

A white, hairy bug with short antennas. Seemed to have 6 legs, but I'm unsure as to whether it does (the hair can be quite misleading). Was about 1 inch long. Crawled pretty quickly - covered 3/4 of a palm sized leaf in less than 2 seconds. Upon further observation, it seemed to hop and jump very quickly from place to place, almost like it was flying. It could hop around a foot away from it's original location in a flash.

Habitat:

Secondary Tropical Rainforest. Was found crawling among dead leaves on the forest floor.

Notes:

The bug seemed to shed a couple pieces of it's white hair while it crawled.
