African spurred tortoise

Geochelone sulcata

Description:

Large tortoise, about one and a half feet to two feet long. Sand colored, bumpy texture on head, plates on back are striated with bands of browns, golds, blacks.

Notes:

Spotted at the Children's Zoo section of the Bronx Zoo, which doesn't give very specific names about the animals in this section to make it simpler for children. Any help identifying this tortoise is greatly appreciated!!
