Jamaican Fruit Bat

Artibeus jamaicensis

Description:

Medium sized bat with broad, but pointed and ridged ears, leaf shaped nose, ashy grey fur on its back. Wings are broad and dark grey. No tail.

Habitat:

Rafters of building on old sugar plantation.

Notes:

Nocturnal, feeding on a wide variety of fruits, and also sometimes on pollen and nectar and rarely insects. They play a major role in the pollination of many flowering and fruiting plants.
