Great Blue Heron

Ardea herodias

Of all of them, this is the largest North American Heron standing at a maximum of 5.5' in the largest of individuals. While colors vary from individual to individual. However, legs and beak are mostly striking yellows. Flight feathers are mostly varying tones of gray. Light touches of black create lovely contrasts throughout this lovely bird.

This lovely specimen is living in a marina area where it hunts at the edge of the lagoon. In general, they can inhabit just about any wetland habitat which includes estuaries, rivers, streams, ponds and more. Those that live in far northern latitudes usually migrate south for the winter
