Bucephala albeola
One of the smallest ducks, thimble has a rounded head which has a dark iridescent face and sides. The top and back of the head are very white. Back is black which meets white one sides and underside is also white.
Common on lakes, ponds, harbors and bays
The simple but dramatic markings on the drake make it an easily identifiable bird to identify even at further out than other small ducks.
