Deconica coprophila

Deconica coprophila

Description:

Tiny shiny brown (viscid) mushrooms about 30mm tall and 10mm wide. Cap flat domed, gills few, open brown, stipe very narrow brown.

Habitat:

These were growing from a large patch of mosses and lichens. On a suburban bus stop.

Notes:

Thanks to TimmiT for direction. This is apparently a coprophilic psilocybe. The mosses and lichens it was found in are therefore suspicious. Nomenclature is under review... RBGV has kept this as Psilocybe coprophila so far.

Deconica coprophila, commonly known as the dung-loving Psilocybe, is a species of mushroom in the Strophariaceae family. First described as Agaricus coprophilus by Jean Baptiste François Pierre Bulliard in 1793, it was transferred to the genus Psilocybe by Paul Kummer in 1871. In the late 2000s, several molecular studies showed that the Psilocybe was polyphyletic, and the non-bluing (non-hallucinogenic) species were transferred to Deconica.

I'll use your reference too if that's ok.

Thanks for the suggestion TimmiT. Looks a good clue at quick glance. I'd almost forgotten this one. Welcome to Project Noah by the way.
