Leopard Flower

Iris domestica

Description:

This flower looks like a mix between a daylilly and an orchid. Anybody know what it is called? I really like the colors on this particular one.

They are not native to Iowa. Iris domestica is native to much of E and SE Asia, from Japan to the Himalaya and the Philippines but have naturalized in most of the eastern US.

My bad, this is known as Iris domestica now. It is a striking flower. I don't see these often and each time I do I have to recall the latin name. I always remember the common name as tiger lily, which is used sometimes but then I remember this is named after a different big cat.
