Bradypus variegatus
Thank you for the extra information Raimundo! Unfortunately seeing a sloth across the road in not unusual in Central and South America, as more roads now go through their habitat and forces them into crossing.
Yes i did! Was on one of the most dangerous roads in panama , it's called Bocas del Toro road. When I saw this guy I park my car next to a curve so cars could speed down and the in went to the other part of the road to make signs and let this sloth out ! Took around 5 minutes
Great spot! Unusual to see a sloth in the road though & rather worrying as they move so slowly it is likely to get hit by traffic.
The green fur is caused by a species of moss that only grows in the fur of sloths! It benefits from the habitat & provides the sloth with camouflage. There is even a species of moth that only lives in the moss on sloths fur! Please add this tpo the Symbiotic Relationships mission. http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/7987...
Hi Raimundo, and welcome to Project Noah! I hope someone made sure he got safely off the road... too many sloths loose their life to traffic as their habitat gets affected.
nice spotting, I hope this beautiful sloth was able to live on made it across this road.
