Red-bellied Woodpecker

Description:

Black and white striped wings, this medium sized bird has a bright red head and as can be seen in images #4-6 a red blotch on the belly. They are very active making holes in many wooden objects, trees and telegraph poles. They also seek bugs hidden in these wooden objects and in #1-2 you can see this beauty listening to the wood of the tree for any sound of insect activity.

I spent all day yesterday trying to photo some Acorn Woodpeckers in the mountains west of here. They are very shy and hard to approach, so I am still trying. You captured this one in your back yard...and better than any I have. I will keep trying...Good Shot!
