Crab-eating Raccoon

Procyon cancrivorus

Sleeping at the top of a coconut palm this Crab-eating raccoon is a resident of Blackbird Caye at Turneffe Atoll. Often the raccoons can be found in the early mornings near the airstrip.

Every so often these raccoons can be seen immersing their tails in a blue crab hole and retrieving their prey.
