Indian Pond Heron

Ardeola grayii

Description:

Look at those toes! Stocky, small heron. White when it flies. Buff- coloured at rest...helps it to crouch invisibly on pond banks. Chest shows a sort of wavy, stripy pattern.

Habitat:

Usually never perches on electric wires/cable lines but this one did. Urban residential area with lots of ponds/lakes nearby.

Notes:

This is such a common bird in these parts I took the photograph because it perched on a wire.
