Description:

Adult Monarch Butterflies during migration, resting due to temperature, those in the sun (above 55 degrees) started flitting and mating.

Habitat:

eucalyptus grove along California's Central Coast

Notes:

estimated 26,000 butterflies there as of Jan. 31, 2015. Reported in 1990-1991 there were 250,000. Very disturbing decline

Scientific name is Danaus plexippus, a quick Google search should find the scientific name where you already know the common name.
It is nearly always a 2-part Latinised name.
