Pistia stratiotes
Pistia is a genus of aquatic plant in the arum family, Araceae. The single species it comprises, Pistia stratiotes, is often called water cabbage, water lettuce, Nile cabbage, or shellflower. It s a floating water plant that has a velvety foliage that spreads like a lettuce leaf arranged in a spiral formation. It is an invasive plant that can make a floating carpet mat on the surface of the water that causes an oxygen depletion resulting to fish kill.
Fresh water surfaces. Marsh land lakes watery fields, drainage and fishponds.
