Asian Elephant

Elephas maximus

Description:

The second largest land animal after the African elephant. The Asian Elephant's head has two bumps, a domed back, smaller ears (shaped like India, incidentally another name for this species is Indian Elephant). This guy had huge tusks.

Habitat:

Los Angeles Zoo

Notes:

Native Range: Mainland Southeast Asia and the islands in northern Indonesia (Sumatra)
