Promethea Silk Moth

Callosamia promethea

Description:

Female with wingspan around 9.5 cm (about 3.75 inches). Member of Saturniidae family of moths. Gorgeous pink/red coloring with distinctive pattern. Females attracted to light, but not males. Also known as Spicebush silk moth.

Habitat:

Edge of woodlands/lawn in low trees (Poconos, PA) Range is only Eastern Canada and USA.

Notes:

This is the 5th female I have seen (4th with good photos)

#2 photo is my favorite so cute and intimate, but #1 photo grabs you. I love how friendly she is. She would rather go on my finger than a leaf. And she has a beautiful fur coat in photo #4 and #5 the wings look like tapestry. I am so fortunate and blessed!
