Coreopsis (aka Tickseed)

Coreopsis lanceolata

Description:

These plants with their gorgeous yellow flowers are members of the family Asteraceae. In Australia they are considered environmental weeds. They hail from central and south-eastern USA where they're also called Tickseed. As Florida's official state wildflower, Coreopsis is increasingly used for roadside plantings and highway beautification. Weeds or not, they look stunning around the highways and paddocks.

Habitat:

These were spotted on a rural property in South East Queensland.

Notes:

It's now summer here and these flowers are everywhere. Like Florida, Queensland is also called the Sunshine State. Perhaps these should be called 'sunshine flowers'.
