You could be right though, the pics on http://www.mushroomexpert.com/daedalea_q... look very similar.

no we don't have oak here, was on an Acacia ataxacantha or flame thorn branch. i must add the branch is dead wood.

On oak by any chance? Maybe some Daedalea species. (Daedalea quercina?)
