Water Hickory

Carya aquatica

Description:

Tree had a large irregular shaped crown with lower branches at eye level. The twigs were a reddish brown. Lots of Spanish moss hanging from the branches and the branches were loaded with nuts.

Habitat:

This tree is growing in a low lying field about 500 feet from the Econ. Cattle are grazing in this area so lots of cow piles to watch out for.

Notes:

I think this tree is a water hickory because of the four ridges on the seed and the long narrow leaves.
