Cicada Killer

Sphecius speciosus

Description:

Large wasp 1.5" long. Dragging an adult cicada. In a buckthorn tree.

Habitat:

Outdoor campus, sertoma park.

Notes:

The wasp slowly moved the cicada up the tree until it reached a height it could take off from. These are very cool wasps with interesting life histories. I've attached a link from bugguide.net in the reference section.
