Milkweed Aphid

Aphis nerii

Description:

Bright yellow aphid with black legs and cornicles (stalks on the back of the abdomen. Aphis nerii are sap suckers. They are an obligate parthenogenetic species which means that all of the adults are females. Some have wings and these are called alata and the wingless ones are called apterae. The adults do not lay eggs but deposit nymphs that are basically clones of the adult female.

Habitat:

Tohono Chul Park is a 49-acre nature preserve in Casas Adobes, a suburb of Tucson, Arizona, United States.
