Tarantula Hawk Wasp

Description:

Large black wasp with orange wings. Second pick shows blue on abdomen.

Habitat:

Found feeding on flowers in an unknown species of tree. Overhanging the water at the confluence of the Colorado and Little Colorado rivers.

Notes:

Lures a tarantula out of its burrow paralyzing it with it's powerful sting. Then lays its egg on the tarantula.
