Description:

about 1.3 cm in length, black with some reddish coloring under wings

Habitat:

spotted on the leaves of an aubergine plant in my desert garden; a pest on all melon plants including the Desert Gourd (Citrullus colocynthis)

That's what I thought, too, Gaby3. I'm trying to track down info on species in Egypt.

Looks like a type of stink bug (Pentatomidae), but I'm not familiar enough with Egypt critters to make an ID.
