Puma concolor patagonico
I just returned from a 3-week visit to beautiful Patagonia (Chile and Argentina). The highlight of my visit to Torres del Paine National Park, Chile was the rare sighting of two pumas. This puma is so well camouflaged against the grass and rocks waiting to ambush the many guanacos that live in the park. It was sighted around 8pm along the main road and was startled by the many vans and buses on the road. Very beautiful cat.
Torres del Paine National Park open grass/shrub hillside along main park road Y-150.
The puma is the top predator in Patagonia. Conservación Patagónica is actively conducting puma research and conservation: http://www.conservacionpatagonica.org/bu.... National Geographic Puma Facts: http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/wi...

Congrats misako, your mesmerizing Puma has made the top 10 mammal spottings in the '2015 Best Wildlife Photo' mission! Rangers are voting on the top 10 mammal spottings, and the top 3 will be announced on February 6th. The top 3 spottings will be commented on here on the site, but make sure you keep a look out on our Facebook app page for the announcement as well! Congratulations on making the top 10! https://www.facebook.com/projectnoah

Super spotting misako
Joshua: I used a Canon SX50 HS camera with a 2X digital zoom...I was several hundred feet from the puma.

Thank you Desmond.E.S.O., Maria, Joshua, dutta for your comments!
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
What a wonderful spotting - so glad you were able to get these beautiful photos of the cat!
No. Way. This is so amazing!
I hope to see a Puma in the future!
Pumas are very shy and secretive animals. The fact that you got a great close-up is shocking to me!
