Mule Deer

Odocoileus hemionus

Description:

Thin female mule deer. Redish in color with a white underbelly. Lot's of "scaring" on face.

Habitat:

Mountain forest near running stream.

Notes:

This was a very thin deer. She appeared to have scarring on her face and parts of her body. It almost looked like mange but may have been from run ins with other deer. I don't think it was from a predator.

Christy, I had the same thoughts! I thought she might have been old. There was plenty of food up there, so who knows!

Great pics...sad, but maybe she's an old girl...wonder if the hot dry summer has had anything to do with her thin-ness...???
