Huntsman eats Huntsman Spider

Isopeda vasta group. Isopeda montana group

Description:

A larger Huntsman (6cm or so across the legs) dines on a smaller cousin. The markings on the abdomen indicate that the predator is probably one of the Isopeda vasta group of species while the prey is one of Isopeda montana group. I am still confused by that and will have to do some research to see if it is resolved yet

Habitat:

One of the smooth barked gum trees in a tiny wood in a suburb

Notes:

The spot this little drama unfolded seems to be a position on the tree (about a metre from the ground) where there is always a Huntsman awaiting prey at night and not usually the same spider or species. The last image is of the same scene two hours later. # spider vs spider I would not be surprised to find at least one of the huntsmen being found around here at night is unknown
