A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Corythaixoides concolor
A medium sized, clumsy bird in the turaco family distantly related to the parrots, and more closely allied with mousebirds. They are named for their cry that with a bit of imagination sounds like "go away," and which is supposed to alert nearby animals to danger
Their feathers reflect light in such a way that they are difficult to photograph well - especially in the constraint of a game drive where your fellow viewers want to get a move on a see a leopard or something instead of a bird!

I saw most of those birds the first time I was there so I wasn't super disappointed, but definitely want to go back! We saw Caracal and Serval tracks many different times, got a Brown Hyena on a trail camera (both video and photos), and I saw a Striped Hyena the first time I was there, but wasn't able to get any photos. Saw tons of jackals but only at night so no photos, and by dogs do you mean African Wild Dogs?? If so, I am very jealous!
wow, beautiful!!! :)
I understand why people return to Africa time and time again. We did manage to get 5 hornbill species(although not all my photos areoutstanding), 4 bee-eaters, 4 rollers(pics of 3) and 3 kingfishers. Got the 3 big cats and saw serval tracks at one of the lodges. Plus dogs and jackals... just missing hyena(but one member of our group saw hyena - I should have gone out int he pouring rain!!)
Great shots! I really wanted to see these guys but we missed them. I was a little disappointed with birds in general, we didn't spend as much time as I would have liked to in lower elevations. Missed all the hornbills, bee-eaters, rollers, and only got one kingfisher. Missed all the cats again too. Just need to go back again :)
