Description:

Bombyliidae. It is large fly that unlike other bombyliidae does not try to imitate a bee. The body is black and very hairy. It presents four lateral white markings at tergum 2 and 3 and two more at the end of the abdomen The wings are mostly black except the tow which is transparent. The adults feed on flowers pollen but the larvae feed on mason bee larvae. The females usually hover in front of a mason bee nest and flick the eggs to the entrance of the nest.

Habitat:

Spotted at an open oak forest. Reserva de la Biosfera del Real Sitio de San Ildefonso-El Espinar.
