Resupinatus alboniger

Resupinatus alboniger

Description:

Tiny black to gray shell-shaped mushrooms. Gills (which radiate from a central point) are gray to black, medium-spaced, and of varying lengths. No stipes/stems are visible. The "upper surfaces" are generally smooth (maybe slight traces of hairs) and black to gray with lighter gray at edges. Resupinatus alboniger is within the family Tricholomataceae and is considered a wood-dwelling saprobe. It differs from Resupinatus applicatus in that it lacks a pseudo-stem and a more hirsute surface.

Habitat:

found growing in clusters on a downed hardwood branch at the base of a ridge in a dense mixed hardwood forest (with some pines) in Northwest Georgia (Gordon County), US. Branch is also covered in moss, lichens, and a white crust fungus.
