Pea Blue

Description:

There were several of these small Lycaenid butterflies around this Pigeon Pea plant. I haven't seen them in my garden before, but then this is the first year pigeon pea has been planted.

Habitat:

Seen in my garden on Pigeon Pea flower buds (cajanus cajan)

Notes:

The peablue, pea blue, or long-tailed blue (Lampides boeticus) is a small butterfly found in Europe, Africa, South and Southeast Asia, and Australia that belongs to the lycaenids or gossamer-winged family. The wingspan is 24–32 mm for males and 24–34 mm for females.
