It's very hit & miss Keith! I hold a flashlight in one hand & my camera in the other & try & hold it still to focus! I take loads of shots if I can & I'm delighted if any actually turn out!

Thanks for the correction Keith! I found her while I was out mothing last night. She actually flew into my hair & then dropped to the ground landing upside down. I took the opportunity to get a ventral shot before setting her right side up!

Great series, it's good to see all the angles. The color of this beetle, along with the orange femurs, lead me to believe this is a female Reddish-brown Stag Beetle - Lucanus capreolus.
