Wasp (nest)

Description:

Large wasp nest with a lot of activity. The wasps appeared to be dark with white stripes and didn't look at all like the wasps I'be seen before with yellow banding.

Habitat:

This wasp nest was encountered in the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge.

Notes:

I wanted to get closer, but was obviously hesitant to stir them up. Just a few steps after this encounter I came across my first eastern cicada killer! Although I wasn't able to grab a photo of it, it was HUGE!
