Rounded Banana Skipper

Erionota torus

Description:

Hesperiidae; Hesperiinae; Erionota torus Evans 1941. "Erionota torus, the rounded palm-redeye, Sikkim palm dart, Sikkim palm red-eye and banana skipper, is a butterfly of the family Hesperiidae. It was described by William Harry Evans in 1941. It is found from southern and northeast India to Burma, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and China. It has also been recorded from Taiwan." Wikipedia

Habitat:

Spotted the skipper in the 2nd. and 3rd.photos hanging on the leaf of a Banana Plant (Musa sp.) in our front yard. It looked as though it might have just eclosed from its pupa - wings not yet quite straight and very docile. The one on my finger was spotted the day before on the same leaf and was so calm and docile, I was able to pick it up gently to get a better photo.

Notes:

Once again, as you can see in the description above, Wiki does not acknowledge the presence of this species in Philippines, but it is here. Don't just take my word for it (or my photos), check in Philippine Lepidoptera's website. It is, by far, the most authoritative platform on butterflies and moths in the Philippines and I always feel that I can put my utmost trust in their information. I don't quite feel the same confidence in some Wiki info.
