Brown Honeyeater

Lichmera indistincta

Notes:

The Brown honeyeater is one of the most prevalent member of the honeyeater family and can be seen on a daily basis. The Brown honeyeater has a wide habitat and can often be seen along creeks rivers or estuarine lakes, in the heath behind beaches and Eucalypt bushland in the tropical hinterland. Brown honeyeaters have a very varied set of calls and some of them do mimic other notable birds which includes the Golden whistler. Brown honeyeaters sing during most of the day as they hop and dart from one flowering shrub to the next. Brown honeyeaters have a traditional curved beak which aids in the skimming of nectar. Although this bird is called the Brown honeyeater it is not really a particularly brown coloured bird at all. In the photo's we have provided here notice how this bird has a grey underbelly and an olive green back, this olive green back is sometimes viewed as brown and other times it is olive green depending upon where the sun hits the bird, there is also a small yellow splash of colour just rear of the eye. Brown honeyeaters often come back to the same nesting territory year after year. Their nest consists of a cup shaped nest that is made of fine bark, leaves and cobweb this is constructed by both the male and female Brown honeyeater.
