Anhinga anhinga
Large bird of black to brown with white the silverish stripes on the feathers having a long slender beak and neck. The word Anhinga comes from the Brazilian Tupi language and means devil bird or snake bird. When the Anhinga is fishing..it often holds its head up above the waterline..giving the look of a snake.
Anhinga is found in mostly southern U.S. states and Central and South America. They can been seen sitting up high in a tree or resting on dead tree in the water.
Other names for the Anhinga is Darter, Snake bird and Water Turkey.
