Spiny Puffball

Vascellum curtisii

Description:

A beautiful puffball-like fungus which had spikes, and was a about the size of a quarter in diameter.

Habitat:

Moist field, near salt marsh.

Thank you very much Augusto and Argy! I do have a microscope, but I didn't think to look at the spores. I need some education on how to do so. I was also thinking L. pulcherrimum, but the spikes seem too elongated for that species.

ID change:
Vascellum curtisii seems to match my observations more clearly. What do you think Simone?

I think this is the spiny puffball. The youngsters are white and later turn into brown.

Thanks Argy (sorry, still used to it (: ), though I have yet to find a pure white specimen. I heard the immature ones are pure white. Do the immature ones have a stem? This one did not.
