African Boll Worm

Helicoverpa armigera

Description:

Medium sized, wingspan 38mm. Forewings pale with dark blemish on each wing. The hindwing are whitish with grey-brown marginal band and brown veins.

Habitat:

Fynbos, gardens. Generally widespread (Ubiquitous). Found commonly on tomato plants.

Notes:

This Specimen, of many on this tree, were consuming the nectar from the flowers. Major pest, feeding on pods, stems and fruit of a wide range of vegetables and trees, characteristically on green tomatoes, causing rotting.
