Eastern American toad

bufo americanus americanus

Description:

approx. 2 1/4 inches long

Habitat:

spotted burrowed in the lawn of riverfront home

Notes:

We had a number of people over for a shrimp and crabs picnic. As it began to get dark, I noticed this toad pop his head from the dirt near the picnic table. He mustered his toady courage and in spite of the noise and activity emerged onto the lawn and hopped past our friends' large dog and into the mint garden.
