Description:

This wildflower of the mint family is a widespread and abundant native plant throughout much of North America. Bee balm "is often used as a honey plant, medicinal plant, and garden ornamental. The species is quite variable, and several subspecies or varieties have been recognized within it."

Habitat:

Observed growing wild near a creek and amidst poison ivy along an urban nature trail. (South Creek Greenway Trail)
