Hybrid mother-of-millions

Bryophyllum x houghtonii

Habitat:

hybrid of 2 species native to Madagascar. Disturbed sites, roadsides, coastal habitats and gardens in sub-tropical, semi-arid, tropical and warmer temperate regions.

Notes:

I've seen this plant so often and had never seen it in bloom, didn't even know it had significant flowers. Well, I was quite taken aback by all the ones blooming in this area. The blooms look like this red/pink umbrellas on very tall stems. Some stalks were about 5 feet tall, most around 3. All had very few leaves at the base.
