Oh my gosh! That same thing has happened to me! I didn't realize it was the meadowlark that made those calls! I hike Green Mountain a lot and always hear them up there! Like you said, they sound like they are right next to you! I need to hike North Table Mesa, I never have and have always been curious!

nice shot.....their call always throws me off.....when I'm hiking North Table Mesa, I'll hear their call and it sounds like it's right next to me so I look around at the ground...then I'll notice it's like 40 yards away on some shrub
....so weird
