Red-eyed Dove

Streptopelia semitorquata

Description:

Large and stocky dove, size of Rock pigeon, about 30 cm in length. Warmer colored tht the most of doves: dark-brown back and wing coverts, pink throat, breast and belly, and pale-pinkish head. To help with ID, these doves sport red eye and easily distinguished red eye-ring.

Habitat:

This is a common and abundant sub-Saharan dove, found in many habitats with the exception of deserts. Here, in large and wooded city park of Abuja, (Millenium park), close to dense forest of Arboretum.
