Eastern Garter Snake

Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis

Description:

Native snake, with varying patterns. This one shows the three longitudinal stripe pattern. Can be distinguished from a ribbon snake by the lack of white spot in front of the eye.

Habitat:

Ranges widely, from forest to field, wetlands, marshes, meadows, etc.. But often found near water. Mostly eats amphibians and earthworms - and small fish, birds and rodents.

Captured as part of the BioDiversity Research Institute's BioBlitz at River Point Conservation Area in Falmouth, Maine.
