A very pretty picture. This species is a cousin of the American monarch and sometimes called the Asian monarch. Danaus genutia is most accurate ID, but you are kind of correct too.

I think you got there a common tiger, as I recall, Monarch butterflies are found in North America, Canaries and Madeira
