Last years old bark peeling off to make way for this season's smooth, new bark.

Habitat:

Dry, rocky hillside above Belton Lake.

Notes:

Late summer to fall, female plants have black, juicy, 1 in. fruit, with several large seeds. When fully ripe they are they are edible.
