Whitebanded Fishing Spider

dolomedes albineus

Description:

Grey spider, sometimes having white bands on sides of carapace. According to my research it is identifiable by the fact that the head is raised higher than the rest of the carapace. Fairly large spider. Ive seen it in and around this hollow tree on many occasions. Tree is in a cypress slough, in about two feet of water.

Habitat:

wetland

Notes:

Really interesting spider that has let me and my camera right in its face without moving. Have seen it here on several occasions.
